Hey kids! Having trouble with sleep?

For the first 4 years of college I had all kinds of "sleep-related" problems.  Going on my fifth year, I think I've pinned it down: caffeine.  During most of my childhood whenever I got a coke (My drink of choice is Dr. Pepper, but I've grown accustomed to calling any dark carbonated syrup drink "coke") it was as a reward for doing a good days work, playing hard, etc.  So even in my last few high school years when it suddenly occurred to me I could buy a "coke" whenever I had the money to, and not just for when I did something good, I just cut loose.  I imagine this must have kept on till about the summer of 2002.  When finally, it occurred to me that perhaps "sleeping late and missing class", "sleeping through class", and "not being able to fall asleep at night" were all "bad" things, and perhaps something needed to be done.  So around the end of summer 2002 I started to buy Caffeine Free Diet Dr. Pepper by the case and kept my fridge stocked with that, I'd also buy a few bottles of the good stuff, for in the mornings, or when I had an all-nighter.  If this semester is any indication of my performance, then I'd say it works.  So far I haven't missed a single class, I haven't even begun to feel sleepy in any of my classes, and I only stay up late at night when I have all the lights on and the computer humming and the music blasting and the TV blaring... but then, who could sleep with all that on anyway?

So my two cents: If your having trouble sleeping: don't drink caffeine after lunch.

My biggest problem in sticking with this is after a hard days work I may find myself at a place that has either "coke" (with caffeine) or Sprite.  And for some reason I just don't like Sprite, so I'll end up buying the "coke" and this is what happens, I stay up till 1 AM adding a whole new section to my website and writing about the effects of caffeine.
